Assessment Services
What happens prior to the assessment?
- The individual’s background, previous educational experiences and current needs are identified through questionnaires completed by parents, individuals and schools. These are required at least 14 days prior to your assessment date.
What happens during the assessment?
- The assessment takes approximately 3 hours and the student is made to feel as relaxed as possible with breaks built in as necessary.
- The assessment involves a series of tests designed to measure performance across a range of cognitive and academic areas.
- Reports containing personalised specific evidence-based recommendations and strategies will be sent electronically within 15 working days of the assessment.
Where do the assessments take place?
- All in-person assessments take place at my home office in Bedford, Bedfordshire.
- We are located close to the town centre and the Embankment

How do I make a booking?
- Use our contact form or email Louise on info@dyslexiabedford.co.uk to make an enquiry to discuss.
- A deposit of £100 is due upon agreeing and securing an assessment date and the balance is due 7 days prior to the assessment taking place.
- As an assessor with a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), assessment reports may be used as evidence for Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) when applying to University.

A dyslexia diagnostic assessment to investigate the presence of dyslexia in children aged 8 to 15 years old (approx. 3 hours). Where appropriate, referrals to other professionals for further investigation will be signposted.

A dyslexia diagnostic assessment to investigate the presence of dyslexia in children aged 8 to 15 years old with additional exploration of numeracy skills to assess attainment in maths and understanding of number (approx. 3 ½ hours). The results from this exploration are not intended to provide evidence for a formal diagnosis of dyscalculia, but they will indicate whether further assessment is required and enable supportive recommendations.

A detailed and holistic assessment designed to explore the presence of both dyslexia and specific learning difficulties in mathematics (dyscalculia) in children aged 8 to 15 years. This combined assessment provides an in-depth investigation of your child’s literacy, numeracy, working memory, processing, and underlying learning profiles.
The assessment is typically completed over two sessions to ensure your child has the time, space, and breaks needed to perform at their best.
This comprehensive process provides the evidence required for a formal diagnosis of dyslexia and dyscalculia when the criteria are met. You will also receive clear, practical recommendations to support your child at home and in school, along with guidance on next steps if any additional support or referral is advised.

A diagnostic assessment to investigate the presence of a specific learning difficulty in mathematics and dyscalculia (approx. 3 hours). Where appropriate, referrals to other professionals for further investigation will be signposted.

If you are concerned that ADHD may be affecting school/work and general day-to-day life, and you are unsure of the next steps (especially as NHS waiting lists are currently so long), then completing the QbCheck may be the solution.
QbCheck is a computer-based screening tool that provides objective information on behaviours commonly associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), suitable for children aged 6 years through to adults aged 60 years.
You can add this screener to any dyslexia or dyscalculia assessment at a reduced price. The screener results are presented within a short, separate report.
Please note: QbCheck does not diagnose ADHD. Instead, it supports professional decision-making when used alongside background information, questionnaires and clinical judgement. It is a tool also used by the NHS and may help support a GP referral.

A detailed and holistic assessment designed to explore the presence of both dyslexia and specific learning difficulties in mathematics (dyscalculia) and includes an ADHD Screener for children aged 8 to 15 years. This combined assessment provides an in-depth investigation of your child’s literacy, numeracy, working memory, processing, attention, concentration, impulsivity and underlying learning profiles.
The assessment is typically completed over two sessions to ensure your child has the time, space, and breaks needed to perform at their best.
This comprehensive process provides the evidence required for a formal diagnosis of dyslexia and dyscalculia when the criteria are met. You will also receive clear, practical recommendations to support your child at home and in school, along with guidance on next steps if any additional support or referral is advised. In addition, you will receive a separate short report of findings from the ADHD Screening check.

This is a shorter literacy assessment for ages 7-14 (approx. 1 ½ hours) which provides information on an individual’s strengths and challenges in relation to phonological awareness (ability to accurately identify, discriminate between and manipulate the separate units of sounds in words) and effects on attainment in reading, writing and spelling, producing a shorter report with supportive recommendations. This is not a full diagnostic assessment and cannot be used for an application for Disabled Student Allowance. Results from this assessment are not intended to provide evidence to identify dyslexia.

This is a shorter numeracy assessment for ages 7-14 (approx. 1 ½ – 2 hours) which provides information on an individual’s strengths and challenges in relation to understanding number and attainment in maths, producing a shorter report with supportive recommendations. If required, maths anxiety will also be explored. This is not a full diagnostic assessment and cannot be used for an application for Disabled Student Allowance. Results from this assessment are not intended to provide evidence to identify dyscalculia.

This is a shorter combined assessment for ages 7-14 (approx. 2 – 2 ½ hours) which provides information on an individual’s strengths and challenges in relation to phonological awareness (ability to accurately identify, discriminate between and manipulate the separate units of sounds in words) and effects on attainment in reading, writing and spelling, as well as understanding number and attainment in maths, producing a shorter report with supportive recommendations. This is not a full diagnostic assessment and cannot be used for an application for Disabled Student Allowance. Results from this assessment are not intended to provide evidence to identify dyslexia or dyscalculia, but the recommendations will be tailored to meet the needs of the child and could support funding or EHCP applications.

A holistic specific learning differences (SpLD) assessment includes a dyslexia diagnostic assessment and an additional exploration / diagnostic interview for ADHD, including QbCheck Screener.
An assessment will include an in-depth diagnostic interview and can formally report strong indicators of ADHD in those over 16, enabling college and university students to access funding and specialist ADHD support in education. Information gathered in this assessment can also support a referral for further medical assessment. This assessment will not give a definitive ADHD diagnosis. It is a comprehensive, practical assessment that can support students in hands-on, useful ways, with a focus on education.

A holistic Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) assessment includes a dyslexia diagnostic assessment alongside a diagnostic interview for Developmental Coordination Disorder (Dyspraxia). The DIDA tool, a structured diagnostic interview, helps identify profiles of dyspraxia and can guide recommendations for further support in education and the workplace.

This serves to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, literacy attainment and barriers to learning with a focus on resources and strategies tailored to meet the needs of the pupil and support funding or EHCP applications. This assessment does not identify whether a pupil has dyslexia but will include an assessment of, where relevant:
- underlying ability
- working memory
- processing speed
- phonological awareness
- reading comprehension, accuracy and fluency
- spelling and writing
- handwriting
- number skills and motor skills where relevant
A report will be provided with scores, analysis, referral information if needed and recommendations.
£500 per pupil
A formal assessment designed to identify students who may need additional support during exams due to specific learning difficulties or disabilities. This process involves a comprehensive evaluation of key areas, including reading speed, writing fluency, processing speed, and working memory. The aim is to recommend suitable exam accommodations such as extra time, a reader or scribe, or assistive technology. Enabling students to showcase their true academic potential without being hindered by their learning challenges.
